Tree of Honour and Remembrance Ceremony


Victims and Survivors of Crime Week, May 26th, 2019 to June 1st, 2019, is an annual initiative that raises awareness about the issues impacting victims and survivors of crime. In honour of this observance, the Status of Women Council of the NWT will be hosting a Tree of Honour and Remembrance Ceremony in each region of the territory.

Members of the public are invited to pay their respect to victims and survivors of crime, by tying a ribbon to a designated tree in the community, as a symbolic gesture.

Lunch or light refreshments will follow each ceremony.

Aklavik: Tuesday, May 28th Aklavik Indian Band board room 12pm to 1:30pm

Fort Simpson: Tuesday, May 28th 12pm to 1pm at the Catholic Church

Fort Smith: Tuesday, May 28th TBA

Yellowknife: Thursday, May 30th 12pm to 1pm at Somba K’e Civic Plaza

Délįne: Friday, May 31st TBA

Behchokǫ̀: TBA TBA

Norman Wells: TBA TBA
